A safe and welcoming space for you to receive support and heal.

Sewanee, TN psychotherapy

I care deeply about making this a safe place for you

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and I have been working as a therapist since 2016. I am passionate about providing a safe and welcoming space for people to receive support and heal. I care deeply about meeting clients where they are and tailoring sessions to their specific needs. In my work with clients, I strive to create a space in which we can become curious about patterns that are no longer working, and how they might have developed in the first place. I help people develop more effective ways of coping, and I support them in changing the ways they relate to themselves and others.

Emily Ezell Counseling for psychotherapy in Sewanee, TN

I believe that clients are the experts on themselves and their experiences, and I collaborate with them to use my skills and expertise to provide relief.

I work with teens and adults, and I utilize a variety of approaches, depending on what is needed.

I primarily use Somatic and Attachment Focused EMDR, and I often bring in Polyvagal Theory, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Internal Family Systems alongside EMDR. All of the approaches I draw from help me support clients in healing from trauma, learning to regulate emotions, and improving relationships.

Experience

I specialize in working with all types of trauma, and with anxiety and depression. I often work with people recovering from disordered eating/eating disorders, and can collaborate with their dietitian as they recover. I also work with neurodivergently minded people who are struggling with any of the above mentioned issues, and am able to adjust my approaches to make room for neurodivergence.

In my 9+ years of being a therapist I have worked as a Centerstone school therapist in Franklin and Coffee Counties for elementary and middle schoolers, and also worked at Centerstone's community mental health center in Tullahoma providing therapy to children, adolescents and adults. I then worked as a therapist for college students at Sewanee's University of the South, before I started my private practice. Prior to my time as a social worker, I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Panama. My experiences in Panama helped me realize I wanted to be a social worker, and helped me embody the social work values, especially those of Social Justice, and Dignity and Worth of the Person.

Outside of therapy I enjoy spending time outdoors with my family, playing with my two cats, trying my hand at gardening, and traveling whenever I can.
